This Chettinad Deepam reflects mid-20th century domestic ritual metalwork associated with Vaishnava households.
The arched Prabhavali (backplate) depicts Ganesha centrally, surrounded by the Eight Forms of Lakshmi (Ashta Lakshmi) rendered in tiered relief. The arrangement positions the lamp not merely as a lighting implement, but as an altar focal point integrating prosperity iconography within daily worship practice.
Such forms were commonly placed in domestic shrines or central halls during evening lighting rituals.
